While everyone from Dumfries to Durness will be backing the boys in blue this month at the Autumn Internationals, we will be reserving some of our cheers our Irish fellows.
The Irish team is made up of players from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with the team currently ranked 4th in the world. The boys in green, so to speak, will first go up against South Africa on the 11th. Having lost 18-25 previous game to the Springboks in the past, Ireland will be fighting on the field for a victory.
November 18th is sure to be a big day here in Edinburgh as Murrayfield welcomes the infamous All Blacks team to face off against Scotland. Win or Lose there are sure to be tears from the crowd. But we can’t forget our Irish friends, we will be competing against Fuji and hoping to maintain their winning streak against the South Sea Islanders.
Topping it all off on the 25th with a match against Argentina. These teams have faced off several times in the past with their first ever match ending in a draw. Since then Ireland has claimed victory on the majority of matches but Argentina will be strong competition.
At Biddy’s we love a wee bit of history, that’s why we found out that the current Irish team was founded in 1874 and played their first official match against England in in February 1875 which…they lost. In fact it took the team 7 years to win a match, now that’s perseverance. Their first victory was against our very own boys in blue.
The lads from slightly over the pond are currently world number 4th with the highest they have ever ranked being 2nd in 2015. The team have won the Six Nations three times, first in 2009 then again in 2014 and 2015. They have also gained the Triple Crown four times meaning they successfully won against all the home teams; Scotland, England & Wales during a year Six Nations matches.
There’s no doubting that the Irish lads are as strong a team as Scotland and here at Biddy’s we have space for all our Celtic supporters.
